Areas of expertise
Cultural history, media history, digital humanities

I was born in 1961 in Turku, completed my MA in 1987 and PhD in 1993.  I have worked as an Associate Professor since 1997, and as Professor of Cultural History since 1999. Now I am working as an Academy Professor 2017–2021.

My research interests focus on digital
history and digital humanities, the cultural history of the nineteenth
century (especially music history), history of film and the media,
history of technology, and the history of emotions and the senses. I’m
also member of The Romantic Era Research Group (RERG).

During my period as an Academy Professor I don't have regular courses, but I participate teaching on the areas of my expertise.
