Niina holds a Professorship in International Business. At the TSE she is the Vice Dean responsible for Education. She is also the Head of International Business (IB) and responsible for both IB-related research and B.Sc., M.Sc. and D.Sc. studies at the TSE. Over the years, she has developed a worldwide academic network. In 2016-2020 she had a Visiting Professorship at the University of Tartu (Estonia). Additionally, she continues as an Adjunct Professor at the Lappeenranta University of Technology and the University of Lapland. In 2022, she was invited to join EIBA Fellows, a group of distinguished scholars in the field of International Business.
Niina Nummela's research focuses on cosmopolitan individuals, international entrepreneurship and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. She has been the responsible leader of multiple research projects funded by, e.g, the Academy of Finland and Business Finland. The research projects are typically collaborative and interdisciplinary and involve international and Finnish partners. Currently she is involved in research projects related to cosmopolitan life and behaviour (funded by the Academy of Finland and the Finnish Work Environment Fund) and SME internationalisation (funded by the Estonian Research Council). She is an experienced PhD supervisor; altogether 30 students have completed their studies under her supervision.
As the Head of International Business (IB) Niina Nummela is responsible for both IB-related research and B.Sc., M.Sc. and D.Sc. studies at the TSE. She teaches on M.Sc. courses on disruptions and international entrepreneurship as well as on a D.Sc. course on business classics. Additionally, she supervises M.Sc. and D.Sc. students. Niina also has international teaching experience, e.g. at Johannes Kepler University (Linz, Austria), Tartu University (Estonia), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), SGH Warsaw and Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedebad, India).
