Research

The research in our group (Synthetic Biology of Cyanobacteria) is focused on metabolic engineering and characterization of photosynthetic cyanobacteria. We aim to establish and use different synthetic biology approaches to enable more efficient metabolic engineering of the target strains. The ultimate objective is to develop novel biotechnological applications, which would allow solar-driven production of different carbon-based chemicals directly from CO2 – using photoautotrophic cyanobacterial cells as biological catalysts.

The research stems from the fundamental photosynthesis research carried out at Molecular Plant Biology, and covers different areas of molecular biology, microbiology and analytics.
