Biography

I work as a postdoctoral researcher in Cultural Heritage Studies. My interests include the history and philosophy of archaeology and the intersection of archaeology, cultural heritage, and contemporary art. My doctoral thesis (University of Helsinki, 2020) was a philosophical and historiographical study on the role and relevance of speculation in the ontology and epistemology of archaeology. Since my PhD, I have researched the history, theory, and pedagogy of maritime archaeology, as well as the aesthetics and ecologies of emergent heritages.

Research

My research divides into three main areas:

1. Philosophy and history of archaeology, with special focus on semiotics, speculative philosophy, and epistemology of archaeology
2. Archaeology, cultural heritage, and contemporary art, with special focus on emergent heritage, heritage ecology, and artistic practices
3. Theory and history of maritime archaeology, with special focus on development of teaching

Teaching

I have extensive experience in teaching a variety of topics at all levels of higher education as well as research-based development of teaching. My recently taught courses include archaeological theory, scientific writing, theories of posthumanism, and maritime archaeology. My current teaching responsibilities include thesis supervision and the yearly taught Perspectives in Maritime Archaeology.
