History of nude photography; modernism in photography in Finland; history of colour photography; visual culture studies
History of photography
Since autumn 2022 I am working as a university teacher in Art History, Turku University. Before that I have been working in that post various periods between 2016–2020. I received a Title of Docent (Adjunct Professor) in 2022, the feild of expertice being Art History, especially research of photography history. In my research I focus on the changing meanings of colour in Finnish photography. Between 2012–2016 I was a free researcher and a project assistent of a film association. Before that I was an executive director of the VB Photographic Center in Kuopio in 2007–2011. My doctoral dissertation was in 2008, and my thesis was about modern ideals in Finnish nude photography 1900–1940. I had an opportunity to work on the thesis in the Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki 1998–2000. After that I moved back to Turku and worked there in Wäinö Aaltonen Art Museum 2001–2003 and as a part time art history teacher 2004–2007. Between 2003–2007 I was able to attend Nordic Network for the History and Aesthetics of Photography – Nordisk fotohistorisk forskningsnettverk.
