Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease
As an experienced clinician, my aim is to educate skillful physicians who understand the meaning of evidence-based medicine. It is very important that medical research would be conducted also in primary care setting to enhance the access and quality of care.
Being a specialist for Internal Medicine and General Practice, my main research interest is prevention and risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. I am the principal investigator in two epidemiological studies conducted in Satakunta:
The HARMONICA (Harjavalta Risk Monitoring of
Cardiovascular Disease) Project, a longitudinal study of
4 000 cardiovascular risk persons.
The PORTAAT (Pori to Aid Against Threats)
Study, a longitudinal study of classical and psychosocial risk factors among
836 working age men and women, conducted among the employees of the city of Pori in
2014–2015
