The aim of my current research at the University of Turku is to investigate the evolutionary meaning of maternal milk and of the variations in its composition (specifically sex-specific variations). I am particularly interested in the role of environmental conditions on maternal milk composition and on whether/how the environment can impact on infant health, temperament and behaviour through variations in maternal milk composition. During my PhD I have gained extensive experience in the analysis of metabolic hormones, growth factors and associated metabolites in human milk samples, through ELISA, and LC-MS. Furthermore, I also have extensive experience in the management of large randomized clinical trials and milk collection in hospital and in the analysis of maternal and infant data from large birth cohorts.
