Marko Kalliomäki graduated from medical school at the University of Turku in Finland in 1995. He
completed his doctoral thesis in 2001 and received his specialist degree in paediatrics in 2005 in the same university. Dr. Kalliomäki qualified as a paediatric gastroenterologist in 2009. He made his post-doctoral fellowship in the combined program of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the Harvard Medical
School in 2003-2004. He has worked as assistant professor (tenure track) of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in University of Turku since August 2017 and as the chief paediatric gastroenterologist in Turku University Hospital since 2007.
The main areas of his research include gut microbiota and immune system in non-communicable diseases such as allergy, colic, inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease. Marko Kalliomäki has published 70 scientific papers and his h-index is 24.
Dr. Kalliomäki has worked as a senior lecturer from 2007 on in University of Turku. He teaches regularly medical students and paediatric residents as a part of his university duties.
