Biography

I am working as a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Pediatrics / Functional Foods Forum, University of Turku. Previous education includes an integrated M.Sc. degree in Agriculture, Food Science and Technology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2014), and an MSc. (Tech) degree in Food Development from the University of Turku, Finland (2016).



Research

The main aims of my doctoral research are to:

  • Explore the influence of gestational age, lactational stage, and specific human milk nutrients on the human milk microbiota configuration
  • Assess the stability of probiotics in human milk during storage
  • Determine the effect of human milk fortifiers on the adhesion properties of probiotics and,
  • Investigate the role of polyamines on probiotic and pathogen adhesion to intestinal mucus
