Research

My research focuses on well-being, trust and social networks. I have studied these topicsin the contexts of welfare states, neighborhoods, elderly and disadvantaged groups, for example. In the SISU project (Sufficiency Solutions for a resilient, green and just Finland) funded by the Finnish Research Council, I investigate the role of institutional trust in the green transition. At the moment, together with our country team, I also implement the data collection and research of the European SHARE survey research infrastructure (Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe) in Finland.

Teaching

The focus of my teaching activities has been statistical research methods and the broader philosophical-methodological questions of social research. In addition, I have practiced many kinds of teaching that deal with the themes of inequality, community and well-being. At the University of Turku, I am teaching the courses Sociological Theory, Sociological Research Seminar, Project Course and Sociology PhD seminar.
