The changing nature of work continuously challenges our understanding of the dynamics of the work-life interface. The pace of digitalization and the growing affordances of digital innovation are key factors that can be attributed to the changing nature of work. Yet, many of our work-life theories were developed at a time when computers barely existed or were privileged work/life devices. Building on some theoretical constructs of work-life interface, this paper aims to contribute to our understanding of the essence of digitalization in work-life scenarios. We advance the theoretical concept of “digital acceleration” to capture how the rapid pace of digitalization is quickening the changing nature of work and further demonstrate how this has implications on the temporality and spatiality of established work-life constructs. We conclude by highlighting mechanisms through which digitalization is reshaping our notion of work-life alongside the different work-life dynamics that this unveils.
