Biography

Dr. Milla Emilia Vaha holds a doctorate of Social and Political Sciences of European University Institute. Since finishing her doctoral studies in September 2013, she has been a Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Turku in Finland, Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Queensland in Australia, the European Union’s Experts4Asia Research Fellow at the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, and Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Tampere and at the University of Turku, Finland. She has teaching experience in tertiary institutions in Finland, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. Her research is on International Political Theory and her areas of speciality include, but are not limited to, the ethics of war, climate justice, International Relations theory, and Immanuel Kant’s moral and political philosophy. In her most recent project, she explores the future of Small Island States under climate change threats and has conducted empirical research in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean countries, including  conducted elite-interviews with various governmental officials (incl. head of states) in these regions.

Teaching
Dr Vaha has taught several courses varying from Political Philosophy to Advanced Qualitative Research Methods in International Relations. She has won several teaching prizes, and has teaching experience in the United Kingdom, Finland, France and Sri Lanka.
