Biografia

I received my PhD from The London School of Economics in 1997. Since then, I have worked at University of Turku and Åbo Akademi. In 2012, I was appointed as a Professor of Political Science at University of Turku. I have made research visits at Columbia University, Australian National University and University of Westminster. At the moment, I am the Principal Investigator of the project "Participation in Long-Term Decision-Making" funded by the Strategic Research Council of Academy of Finland.

Tutkimus

In my research, I have specialized in democratic theories, especially theories of deliberative democracy, as well as various types of democratic innovations. Right now I focus on issues of long-term decision-making, especially how deliberative citizen participation might help counteract short-termism in representative politics. This is also the key question in the PALO project in which I am the Principal Investigator. http://paloresearch.fi

Opetus

I am on a research leave in 2018-2019.
