Biography

I got my MA in Phonetics in 2013 at the University of Turku, and in 2014 I began working on my doctorate at the same department. My topic was the use of listen-and-repeat training in the learning of non-native phoneme contrasts, with a particular focus on segment duration. The work involved psychophysiological EEG measurements in addition to behavioral tests and acoustic analysis. I defended my PhD dissertation in November 2022.

In addition to my PhD work, I've taken part in presenting several workshops about phonetics and speech aimed at the general population, particularly children.

Research

I am currently working as a postdoc in the "Tanssi uhanalaisten kielten ja foneettisen maailman tulkkina (T&T&F) project. The focus of the project is on collecting speech material from the various local languages spoken in Namibia and examining the phonetics of the English spoken there. The project is funded by Kone Foundation for the years 2022-2024.

Teaching

Between 2014 and 2019 I've planned and taught nine different courses in Phonetics and General Linguistics at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. The courses included laboratory method workshops, basics of speech synthesis, workshops on training of second language speech acquisition and basics of experimental research, among others.
