Research

I am an expert in the history of geographical knowledge and cartography in the context of the 19th century British Empire, colonization of Australia and the cultures of exploration and discovery. I have researched the mobilities of knowledge and the different societal contexts of producing knowledge and "facts", for example in the practices of state administration. I am interested in the social and material processes constituting the production of knowledge, how knowledge is shared via different material products and how the places of consuming knowledge shape its reception. Currently I am exploring these themes in a project focusing on the production and global circuits of European maps of the British settler colonies in the nineteenth-century.

Teaching
  • History of science and knowledge

  • 19th century
