Molecular Epidemiology and Evolution Research Programme
1997-1999

Funding of the research programme

The Academy of Finland has annually allocated the total sum of FIM 10 million to the programme for the period 1997-1999.

The allocation of funds is based primarily on the scientific merit and importance of the project, the synergistic scientific benefit to be obtained through collaboration, and the researcher training provided by the research teams. The synergistic impact of molecular biology and epidemiology is assessed in allocating funds to projects.

In funding decisions, priority is given to consortia consisting of top research teams (at least two Finnish teams) and offering top researcher training in new fields. Consortia are usually funded for three years at a time.
